I was absolutely devastated today to find out that Alexander McQueen would not be showing at Paris fashion week this year. With Sarah Brunton’s beautiful twins due very close to fashions spectacular show she has chosen to show the collection at a small private presentation. Although they have confirmed that McQueen plans to reclaim their traditional spot for S/S ’14, I can’t help but feel a little sad that I will not be seeing the labels awe-inspiring pieces on the catwalk this season.
This seems to becoming a new trend of fashion houses with Hedi Slimane deciding that the fashion press wouldn’t be invited to see his first collection for the fashion house Yves Saint Laurent.
Although in both cases, and to the relief of all of us who love a catwalk show, both these houses have not announced to make a habit of this, but it does cause me to question if we will see more of this from the fashion community. With social media and the internet gone wild, its hard for designers to keep their works private and not have copycats out there before their own collections become available. (Remember the Royal wedding dress, it took one night for imitations to be available to the public).
For my sake I hope it doesn’t! I love being able to sit behind my computer and watch the fashion shows from the other side of the world. However, the anticipation seems to give the brands back some luxury and power with buyers and the fashion community fighting for a spot in these private viewings.
